I ordered a 41 - XLThese fit well and are very comfortable, though I didn't know that at first. The waist is probably a 39, and not as stretchy as the waist band seems to imply. They were a bit snug to put on, but I admittedly have a big butt. Once on, however, they felt great, and they are made of a stretchy material that loosens up a bit, and so they went on and off more smoothly for the second and third wear. They are still loosening up a bit, and that's good.I wear a 38 waist, so these are a good fit at XL, but they MAY be a bit small, but I said, "fit as expected" because they actually fit me very well. I thought, like another person, that they would be much baggier. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, because it was tighter than expected, and the legs are actually designed tighter than most pants of the same size. But the stretchy material compensates for that. The material also felt a bit still, but it softens with wear.Very comfortable, but if you aren't used to these, give them a chance first, and I think they'll grow on you like they did me. I bought another pair, and got compliments on these pants from two people independently on the first day.The person who says that they tore is a weird case. The crotch on these has a nice triangular design to prevent that exact thing. I can almost do the splits while standing, and I did it in these pants (I do Tai Chi in them, sometimes), and they handle such moves like a champ. So they might feel a bit tighter than your typical sweat pants or jeans, but the stretchy material and triangular cut in the crotch area makes them much more flexible than many other pants that are even more baggy. Plus, they look *almost* semi-formal, so after a nice long morning of Tai Chi in the park, you can go into the cafe for a green tea and still look cool.
